Chocolate Croissants !

painchoc.jpgTrader Joe’s  is now selling frozen chocolate croissants. The small box contains 4 of them and it will cost you $3.99 (+ tax).  Each chocolate croissant is 320 calories. They need to be taken out of the freezer 9 hours before baking time (about 20 minutes). The result is surprisingly satisfying!

In fact these chocolate croissants (Pain au chocolat in french) are among the best I have tested so far in Los Angeles. According to this blog (justinsomnia) Trader Joe’s chocolate croissants are made by Chef Jean-Yves Charon, Founder of Galaxy Desserts in Richmond (California). Among his clients are Dean and Deluca and Williams Sonoma.

Trader Joe’s aside, the best value remains at Amandine (Wilshire Blvd, one block west of Bundy). They got it all: freshness, size, chocolate amount and reasonable price ($2). Delicious too (but more expensive: $3.50) : chocolate croissant from Le Marmiton on Montana Avenue, in Santa Monica. Among my top 5 are also the chocolate croissants from the chain Le Pain Quotidien ($2.60).

I will soon check also Breadbar and Pain du Jour (828 Pico Blvd - near Lincoln Blvd)

Do not hesitate to share your good addresses!
